PROCLAMATION
RE: RESEARCH SANCTUARY
Preston
P. Pate, Jr., Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that
effective at 7:30 A.M., Monday, July 2, 2001, the following area is
declared a RESEARCH SANCTUARY and IS CLOSED to all fishing
equipment::
An area consisting of approximately 0.25 acre adjacent to
the N.C. Carteret Community College on Bogue Sound as show on the attached
map. The area is delineated by four
posts and signs. The location of the
posts are as follows:
1. 34° 43.318’ N 76° 45.576’ W
2. 34° 43.309’ N 76° 45.576’ W
3. 34° 43.318’ N 76° 45.537’ W
4. 34° 43.309’ N 76° 45.538’ W
GENERAL INFORMATION:
A) This
proclamation is issued under the authority of G.S. 113-182; 113-221(e);
143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103 and 3I .0109.
B) It is
unlawful to violate provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries
Director under his delegated authority per 15A NCAC 3H .0103.
C) Stakes and
signs posted by the applicant will mark the area closed to fish and shellfish
harvest.
D) N.C. Marine
Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3I .0109, specifies that this Research Sanctuary is in
effect for one year, subject to renewal at the end of that year.
E)
This action is being taken to allow
N.C. Carteret Community College and the N.C. Sea Grant Program to demonstrate
shellfish aquaculture techniques and to allow educational programs to be
conducted within the area.
